One is silver and the other's gold

When I opened my laptop this morning, hundreds of little teeny ants jumped out from between the keys and started scurrying around. I had barely recovered from that shock before I was met by another in the form of an apology e-mail I didn't expect. It felt like cleaning an infection: painful but also necessary for proper healing.

In the afternoon Jane's mom took me to K-Mart, the only other store that I know of besides Target that is in both Australia and the U.S. Since Rotary only guarantees a fridge, freezer, stove/oven, kettle, microwave, and toaster, I bought pots, pans, a spatula, a knife, a measuring cup, dishtowels and best of all a combination blender/ juicer/ grinder! It was only $19 so it's probably a piece of crap but it only has to last me four months so I'll take my chances. If I really like it, I might buy a better one when I get home since I really wished I had that sort of thing at WSU this last school year.

On the way home, Jane's mom stopped for gas, or petrol as she called it. The prices here are measured in cents per liter, and I have no idea how much a typical tank holds since the cars are also different, so it was difficult for me to determine how expensive it is compared to prices in the States. It makes me that much more relieved that I didn't plan to have a car here, since trying to drive on the left side of the road in a manual would have been plenty without budgeting for fuel, too.

Many older pumps aren't electronic.
