Rainforesssssstation

July 9, 2011

The dreaded jet lag that everyone warned me about really has not been bad at all. I had probably the worst sleep I’ve ever had on the 13 hour flight across the Pacific, waking up when the lady in front of me squished my head between the seat and the tray table as she reclined her seat suddenly and then repeatedly about every five minutes for the next five hours.
Today was more interesting than yesterday, when all we did was try to get the internet working and go to an orientation session that was followed by dinner. The buses took us to a buffet this morning, where many unsuspecting AustraLearn students had their first taste of Vegemite. Our presentation leader gave one girl a koala keychain when he found out she actually liked it! He said that if we eat it enough, we will learn to love it.

It's not bad if you have low blood pressure.

I really liked Rainforestation, which we went to after the our second orientation session following breakfast. For the most part, it was well organized and I enjoyed all of the activities without feeling rushed. I was pretty disappointed, though, that we didn’t get to feed (or even touch) the kangaroos like we were told we would. We did get to keep the photo of us holding a koala, though, and with any luck we will encounter kangaroos tomorrow.

I was scared stiff holding the python.

  2. Yes, and it loved nothing more than wrapping itself around people. Considering that is it's method of killing things in the wild, I didn't like it much. But I can at least say I gave it a chance.
